This album is a lasting testament to the Canadian and British soldiers’exploits in and around Creully; the most memorable moments of the town’s liberation on June 6th. The BBC set up its studio in the square tower of the château and for a time Creully joined the rest of the world, tuning in to daily updates on the Battle of Normandy. The studio can still be seen upon visiting the château.
Just down the road is the château de Creullet, which was used as a headquarters by General Montgomery. There he met with many key players of the day : His Majesty King George VI, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, General Dempsey and General De Gaulle - all spent time in Creully. Retrace their steps through this album of historical photographs.
